Reality Check Update: July 2019

School’s out for summer! Reality Check meetings may be out of session, but that is not stopping our youth from gaining new skills and experiences while getting involved! Four youth from Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties attended a regional training at Beaver Hollow with other Reality Check contracts in the Western Region. This training included multiple interactive team building activities like scavenger hunts and building catapults. There were activities that challenged their problem solving skills and opportunities to reflect on their experiences as youth leaders and advocates.

Reality Check also participated in SafeZones’ teen pride event in Chapel Park! Youth hosted a table with activities and giveaways for attendees. The teens actively engaged the participants in conversation with education on the targeted marketing to the LGTBQ community. They also joined pride walk, giving them the opportunity to express their pride in being themselves while they were showered with rainbow powder.

Reality Check youth are leaders among their peers and positive change agents in our local community. If you know of any youth in Chemung, Schuyler, or Steuben counties who would be interested in participating in this free youth-leadership program, contact Samantha White at (607)737-2858 or spwhite@chemungcountyny.gov.
